FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

IS IT SAFE?

At SOMERSTAGE we take the safety of our students very seriously. All of our teaching staff have their own public liability insurance with Equity and hold full enhanced DBS checks. Each staff member has at minimum a level one Safeguarding qualification. Principals Lisa & Timothy Bonser hold level 2 qualifications and act as Deputy Safeguard Leads. The McMillan Theatre itself has clear Data Protection, Health and Safety, Fire and Safeguarding policies under the banner of BTC that work in tandem with our own for an extra safe environment. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or would like to see our policies. Our safeguarding policy can be found HERE. At least 2 first aiders are on site at all times and the main entrance is manned continuously. All students are signed in and out and only released with a parent or guardian present after classes finish (unless agreed prior with older students).

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Students will be put into three classes of the relevant age group. Each class will rotate around the 3 disciplines of Acting, Singing and Dancing over the course of the three hour session. Each term will be working to a specific goal of improvement. When we are working towards a show, students will work as a company and behave as if in a professional rehearsal.

WHAT WORKSHOPS?

The great thing about having worked professionally is that all of our friends are super talented and still working in Musical Theatre, TV and Film. We often have exciting guest teachers dropping by to do workshops or even just help out with our major productions. We were recently visited by Ashley Bruce who gave us a workshop hot off the recent US Tour of the new musical 'The Prom'.Our good friend Paul Bullion visited us recently to help out backstage and sell programs after playing Lambert in season 2 of 'The Witcher' for Netflix. What a cool humble guy!!

SOMERSTAGE also runs Musical Theatre workshops in half terms, Easter and Summer Holidays with different themes. Previous workshops include 'The Greatest Show', 'Back to the Musicals', 'West Side Story', 'Wicked', 'Encanto' and many many more. We learn and perform material from your favourite shows and then present it onstage with lighting, sound and projections to our invited loved ones.

CAN I SEE A PERFORMANCE?

The great thing about being based at The McMillan is that our students benefit from the theatre itself. We will be putting on yearly performances for the public (such as our recent production of Matilda Jr which you can see HERE). All of our Somerstage weekly students will perform In at least one large scale production show a year.
